What luxuries and materialistic items did you give up to be a SAHM?

I really want to stay home. Obviously that new car I want is out of the question, brand name foods, clothes, cleaning products, etc. What luxuries and materilistic stuff did you give up to be a SAHM?

I drive an ‘02, my husband drives a ‘96. We don’t eat out very often, we don’t take trips (if we go somewhere, it’s a state park). I cook very "local" meals (as in, simple ingredients etc…). I don’t buy new clothes very often and when I do, they are from Target. Sometimes I cut my own hair and I cut my kids and husbands hair. I line dry as often as possible. We eat healthfully and get plenty of exercise so we can help avoid getting sick. No spa treatments, massages etc….pre-packaged foods are not bought often. I try and make halloween costumes, curtains, throw pillows.

You got it, unless you’re like me and work out of your home. Personally, I’m tired of making economical sacrifices. I did that for so long, I’m done. My husband and I do well now and I don’t think I can stay at home, not work and give up on my homemade cooking, buying what I need when I need it, and being able to buy some nice things once in a while.

I know you’re having a hard time prioritizing, but it doesn’t mean you have to give up everything either.

I felt like I was giving up a lot but had to realize the benefits I was receiving. I did eventually go back to work because it was too hard for me. But for my sahm friends that are still struggling, I encourage them to find something they can do from home to earn a little money. It helps a little.

Feel free to email me for more info or if you need a shoulder..

    Good luck to you!
